Description

The Old Vicarage is a former vicarage now used as a house, with origins likely dating from the early 18th century, but mainly constructed in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The building features regular coursed and squared limestone with a slate roof. Originally designed in a T-shape, it has been altered to a cross plan and stands two to three storeys high.

The garden front includes two wings, each with a two-window range, featuring irregularly spaced sash windows with glazing bars set under gauged stone heads and wood and stone lintels. The left wing is two storeys tall, and there is a 20th-century single-storey extension between the wings. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the building. The entrance front mirrors the garden front, with a projecting central wing, and features a part-glazed door and porch to the left.

Inside, there is a mid-18th-century staircase with a turned balustrade, which is likely reused from the Yelverton mansion that once stood to the northeast of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The building was home to Thomas Percy from 1753 to 1782.
