Description
The George Inn is a public house located on Wilby Main Road, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and ironstone, topped with a slate roof. The building originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic. The front features a five-window range of 20th-century casements with glazing bars set under gauged stone heads, which have been rendered. The ground floor was refenestrated in the 19th century and has similar windows with rendered surrounds. There are central 20th-century doors and a porch, along with a moulded stone cornice and a pair of gabled roof dormers with casements. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and kneelers, with brick stacks at either end. To the right, there is a late 18th or early 19th-century one-unit brick extension that connects to an 18th-century stone barn, which features a 19th-century roof. There is also evidence of an 18th-century wing at the rear. The interior of the building was remodelled in the 20th century.
