Description

Chalfont Park House, built in 1755 by John Chute, was altered by Nash around 1800 and remodeled in Gothic style by Salvin in 1836. This house features eight bays and two storeys, with a cement-rendered exterior and battlemented parapets. The central bays project, showcasing a two-storey porch flanked by battlemented turrets. To the right of the projecting central bays is a five-bay conservatory, while bay windows are located to the left of the porch. The arched windows, some of which are four-centred, have hood moulds. The garden front includes a central full-height canted bay window, with battlemented parapets to the left and a coped section to the right. The interior boasts a carved stone fireplace from around 1600 in the entrance hall, featuring inset contemporary bas-relief wood panels, and an early 18th-century closed string staircase above the ground floor level.
