Description

Jordans Meeting House is a historic building dating back to 1688, as noted on the cornice. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped roof covered with old tiles, along with a coved cornice. The left section, which houses the meeting room, is a single storey and has two cross mullion diamond lattice casements with flat arches and panelled shutters. The entrance consists of a four-panel, two-fold door with astragal moulding and an oblong two-light wood mullion fan. The right section is two storeys tall and has paired casements with panelled shutters and flat arches on the ground floor. The building was altered in 1717, which is inscribed on the brick of the north wall. Inside, the meeting room retains its original panelling, and there is a gallery dated 1733. The graveyard outside contains the graves of William Penn, his family members, and Thomas Ellwood, a notable Quaker and friend of John Milton. This meeting house is of significant historical interest due to its age and its connections to William Penn and the early Quakers.
