Description
Stone Dean House is a late 17th century house that was extended south around 1780, with a west block added around 1820. The building has two storeys, featuring a three-bay west front and four-bay returns. It has three parallel roofs, all hipped; the two rear roofs are hipped and covered with old tiles, while the front roof has a shallower pitch and is slated. Much of the brickwork is painted. The house has 17th century cross casements on the north and east sides, 18th century box sashes with cambered heads on the south, and the west block has recessed barred sashes on the upper floor. There are French casements on the ground floor, set in arched panels on the front. The central door is framed by a Doric porch, which was added in 1924 by Hubert Lidbetter. The rear block features a band course, and there is a wooden bell turret with a weather vane. The house is noted for its associations with the Quaker community.
