Description
The grotto located by the lake approximately 250 metres northeast of Eythrope Pavilion is a mid-18th century structure. It is constructed from tufa and roughcast, featuring inset pieces of quartz. The grotto forms an arch over a small inlet of the lake and includes artificial stalactites, stalagmites, and columns. It was likely built for Sir William Stanhope as an ornamental feature for the grounds of the former Eythrope House.
