Description
Magnolia Cottage and Sweetbriar are a pair of cottages located in Westlington, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The cottages are timber-framed with plaster infill at the rear and sides, and were refronted in the 18th century with rubblestone that has been colourwashed. They feature a thatched roof that is hipped to the left and extends over a lean-to that projects forward.
Sweetbriar, which is No. 4, consists of one bay and is 1½ storeys high. It has a left-hand board door and a right-hand two-light casement window, along with a two-light eaves dormer that is off-center. There is a stack on the right side.
Magnolia Cottage, which is No. 5, has two bays and is also 1½ storeys high. It features a six-panel door set in a modern hipped porch. The right-hand bay is smooth rendered, likely refaced, and has two paired casement windows. There are also two-light eaves dormers and stacks on either side of the left bay. The timber framing is exposed on the left gable elevation and along the entire rear of the cottage.
