Description

Wootton's Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with later enlargement in the 18th century. The original 17th-century structure is timber-framed with plastered infill, while the 18th-century sections are built of witchert and rendered on a rubblestone plinth, all of which is colourwashed. The house features half-hipped thatched roofs and has a letter-L plan, with the 18th-century range facing the road and the 17th-century range at right angles to the north.

The street front consists of two bays, while the northwest range has three and a half bays. It is two storeys tall, with an attic in the 18th-century range. The upper floor of the 17th-century bays is timber-framed, and the ground floor is partly witchert. The entrance is located in the angle between the two wings and is sheltered by a porch. The windows were originally leaded casements with iron opening casements, but most of the lead has been replaced with plain glass, featuring two and three lights.

There is a 17th-century stack made of old thin bricks in the northwest range, and a colourwashed rubblestone stack that projects and is weathered, located off-centre on the street front with a brick flue. The 18th-century range has a brick half gable and a thatched outshot at the rear. Inside, the farmhouse includes inglenook fireplaces and stop-chamfered spine beams. The timber-framed 17th-century range of three bays does not extend to the roadside, but the 18th-century wing adds a half bay to reach the road and extends to the left, completing the letter-L plan.
