Description

Mollards Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and an extension from the 18th century. The original timber frame, including curved braces in the upper right bay, is concealed beneath a colourwashed brick exterior, which was added in the 19th century. The roof is thatched, with brick chimneys to the left and between the right-hand bays—the latter chimney tapers. The house is one-and-a-half storeys high and has three bays. Windows are leaded casements; the ground floor window on the left is a 19th-century addition, while the others are 20th century replacements. The ground floor features a three-light window flanked by two-light windows, all with segmental heads. There are also two-light windows in the thatch. A large, gabled, two-storey porch projection, built in the mid-20th century, sits between the right bays and includes leaded casements and a door on the right-hand side. An early 19th-century one-bay extension to the right matches the brickwork of the main house, incorporating some timbering and a tiled roof. Modern garage extensions are visible to the left. The interior includes stop-chamfered spine beams in the right bay and a well-preserved early 19th-century corner cupboard to the left.
