Description

These are three cottages built in 1876 for Hannah de Rothschild. They are constructed of red brick to the ground floor, with a half-timbered first floor featuring whitewashed roughcast infill. The timberwork is jettied on brackets supporting a moulded bressumer. The roofs are tiled, incorporating fishscale patterning, with symmetrical brick chimneys, some of which have been rebuilt.

The cottages are two storeys high and three bays wide. The outer bays are gabled and project slightly, featuring canted bay windows on the ground floor and three-light wooden casements above. Whitewashed terracotta date plaques, displaying “H de R 1876,” are positioned below the upper windows, flanked by herringbone brickwork, also whitewashed. The central bay has a transomed casement to the left of a 20th-century door, both with cambered heads, and a four-light eaves-breaking casement on the first floor. Small porches on either side have single-light windows and access points. The design is influenced by the work of George Devey at Ascott and forms part of a group of picturesque estate cottages.
