Description
Lower Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed from witchert, which is colourwashed and rendered, sitting on a rubblestone plinth. The building features brick gables above a dentilled band and has a plain clay tile roof. It consists of four bays and one and a half storeys. The west or garden elevation includes an off-centre four-panel door in the second bay from the road, framed with heavy beaded oak. On either side of the door are three-light leaded casements. The north bay has a modern three-light ground floor casement, while the three right bays feature three-light swept eaves dormers. There are stacks located between the left and right hand bays. The east or farmyard elevation has two similar doorways and irregular ground floor casements, along with three three-light leaded casemented swept dormers.
Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and a closed string. The north or left-hand stack has a chamfered and stopped inglenook lintel. The spine beams are chamfered and have stepped ogee stops.
