Description

Water Stratford Lodge, along with its gate piers and railings, serves as the entrance to Stowe Park and is possibly designed by John Boorer in 1843. The lodge is constructed from brick and rendered, featuring neoclassical details, some of which are in stone. Notable architectural elements include a moulded dado string, an upper entablature, a parapet with balustraded sections, chamfered quoins, and architrave sash windows with cills supported by scroll brackets. The building is single-storey and has a west front that consists of three bays.

The central porch is adorned with a pediment and entablature above a moulded arch that features a scrolled keystone, flanked by Ionic pilasters. Steps leading to the porch are bordered by low piers topped with ball finials, and there are cast-iron railings leading to an arcaded parapet at the left-hand corner. The railings and parapet correspond to a round enclosure located on the opposite side of the road. At the entrance to Stowe Park, the segmental-plan railings are complemented by panelled gate piers that have stone corniced caps and urns, along with a plain outer pier featuring ball finials, one of which is missing.
