Description

The Oxford Gate, gate piers, and lodges are a Grade I listed structure located at Stowe School. The gate piers were designed around 1730 by architect William Kent and were relocated to their current position in the later 18th century. They feature large rusticated piers with a semi-circular headed arch and a carved coat of arms set within a frieze pediment. Small outer pavilions were added by Valdre. The structure includes vermiculated quoins and keyblocks, topped with ogee roofs that have ball finials.
