Description

The Lodge, gates, and gate piers at the eastern entrance to Stowell Park were built in the late 19th century, likely designed by Samuel Belcher. The lodge is constructed of limestone rubble, with the first floor of the house part pebble-dashed and a stone slate roof topped with a stone stack. The gate piers are made of ashlar, and there are subsidiary piers connected to the lodge by a limestone rubble wall. The gates are made of wrought and cast iron.

The lodge has a rectangular plan with a circular turret at the front left corner. The gates and gate piers are attached to the lodge via a short section of wall to the left of the turret, which curves forward to the left of the left-hand pier and ends at a subsidiary pier. A similar curving wall and subsidiary pier are located to the right of the turret. The lodge is 1½ storeys high, with the upper floor lit by a 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement. There is a Cotswold dormer facing the main road and a small gable at the rear. A string course runs between the ground and first floor of the main body. The turret is also lit by 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements.

At the left gable end, there is a 19th-century plank door with fillets within a lean-to porch. The turret has an octagonal roof that rises to a point, topped with a ball finial. The gate piers and subsidiary piers feature recessed panels, moulded cappings, and ball finials. The double gates incorporate some foliate wrought-iron work, with a deer's head at the apex of the left-hand gate. The interior of the lodge has not been inspected.
