Description

The Four Parts of the World is a set of four statues located approximately 230 metres east of Waddesdon Manor. These statues, dating from the 18th century and attributed to the Venetian artist Giacomo Cassetti, are made of Istrian stone and each represents one of the four continents.

The statues include:

a) Europa, who is draped and crowned, holding a domed temple and a sceptre, with a small horse at her feet. b) Asia, draped and holding flowers and a censer, with a small camel at her feet. c) Africa, depicted nude, holding a cornucopia filled with wheat and a small beast, likely a basilisk, with a small lion at her feet. d) America, also nude, wearing a feathered skirt, collar, and arm-bands, adorned with a string of beads, standing with one foot on a man's head and a large lizard behind her.

All four statues are placed on 19th-century stone pedestals that feature moulded bases, panels, and cornices. They were previously located at the gates by the Grand Lodge.
