Description
54 High Street is a building dating from the 17th century or earlier, which has been altered and refronted in the early 19th century. It features colourwashed brick, with the first floor displaying exposed timber framing. The roof is covered with old tiles and has a central brick chimney stack with four diagonal shafts. There is a gabled wing on the left and a smaller gable on the right. The building is two storeys high and has two wide double-hung sash windows in reveal on both floors. On the right side, there is a six-panel door, with two fielded panels, topped by a cornice hood. The gabled rear wing is timber framed with red brick infill and has a tiled roof, also two storeys high. Inside, the ground floor includes two large moulded fireplace beams and a stair balustrade with splat balusters. It is noted that the first-floor room over the carriageway in No 56 is part of No 54.
