Description
Bridge number 12 over the Grand Union Canal Aylesbury Arm was built between 1811 and 1813, designed by engineer Henry Provis for the Grand Junction Canal Company, with some patching done in the late 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, primarily in English bond. The bridge features a round arch with a number plate above and base-stones on the north side to protect the brickwork from damage. There is a raised brick band below the parapet, which has rounded brick coping and end stones. The square projecting end piers are set on stepped, battered plinths that lead to the outswept ends of the parapet. This bridge carries a farm track over the canal and has seen little alteration since the Aylesbury Arm was opened in 1815.
