Description

The Round House and Pink Cottage comprise a 16th-century cottage that has been altered and extended in the 20th century, together with a round tower dated 1730. The cottage is rendered and colourwashed with an old tile roof. It has a brick chimney with grouped shafts at the junction with the tower. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with three bays; the left bay is 20th-century, containing a door and catslide verandah. The right bays each have a gable facing the front and paired barred wooden casements. A further similar casement is located on the ground floor between the right bays. A 20th-century rear wing has been added. The interior of the cottage features timber framing and may include a cruck truss in the centre, along with a large fireplace with a chamfered arched lintel.

The round tower is constructed of dressed chalk with a flint plinth and a deep moulded brick modillion cornice, topped by a conical tiled roof. It has two storeys. A 20th-century paired wooden casement has been inserted to the ground floor front, and paired casements are present in altered openings on both floors of the right side; the lower metal casement retains the original segmental arch and internal lintel. Original entrances to both floors of the tower are now enclosed within a small 19th-century wing built of flint and brick to the rear. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear wing.

The tower's interior reveals stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops supporting the upper floor, blocked fireplaces, and a date stone in an upper room.
