Description
Monkton Farmhouse is a house with late medieval origins, featuring a late 16th century cross wing on the left. The building was entirely rebuilt in brick during the 18th and 19th centuries and refurbished in the 20th century. The brickwork includes the left bay made of vitreous header brick with red dressings and cogged edging at the gable. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a rebuilt brick chimney at the center.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with four gabled bays, where the left bay is slightly lower and projects outwards. The windows are 20th century wooden casements with two and three lights, and those on the ground floor and in the left bay have cambered heads. A 20th century door is flanked by single lights and is set within a 20th century lean-to porch in the third bay. The three bays on the right feature a wooden lintel running across the base of the gables, with the two right bays having some thin brickwork above.
Inside, the farmhouse retains two cruck trusses and some heavy timber framing in the left wing, which includes curved wall braces and wind-braces.
