Description
Cowley, part of the Springhill Cancer Care Centre, is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The building is constructed of rubblestone that has been colourwashed and features an old tile roof. It has three wide bays and is two storeys high. The central door is topped with a three-pane fanlight and is sheltered by a cut bracket hood. The left bay has a blocked doorway to the right of a window. The windows are three-light casements, with the right-hand first-floor windows being leaded. There is a stack on the left gable, which also has a band course and is colourwashed and roughcast. The right gable elevation features three-light casements on the ground floor and in the attic. The right bay has a lateral stack on the rear elevation with three diagonal brick shafts. There is an outshot at the rear of the left bay. A central staircase window at the rear has a leaded cross-casement, and there is a three-light dormer at the rear of the left bay. Inside, there is a wide fireplace associated with the lateral stack and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
