Description
Nos 29 and 31 on West Street are a pair of 18th-century buildings that stand three stories tall. They are constructed from vitreous brick with red dressings. The façade features three rusticated brick pilasters that rise from a moulded string course at the first floor up to a bracketed cornice. Above, there is a panelled parapet with stone coping, and the buildings are topped with an old tile roof.
No 29 has one window and a half-glazed door on the left side, which is framed with an architrave and has a cornice hood supported by four cut brackets. No 31 features two windows on the upper floors, a three-light rectangular bay on the ground floor, and an eight-panel door on the right side, also with an architrave. This door has a cornice hood supported by bold carved stone scroll brackets, and there is a frieze between the brackets that is enriched with carved masks. A brass lion knocker adorns the door of No 31.
These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 27 to 33 (odd) and Nos 37 to 51 (odd).
