Description

The Chequers Hotel is a building dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century and later additions in the late 18th century. It is constructed of painted stucco with an old tile roof. The left-hand section projects at the first-floor level, supported by heavy, boxed brackets, and features three windows on the ground floor. The right-hand window is five panes wide, while the left-hand window incorporates a projecting and modernised section with a four-panel central door. A secondary door is positioned to the right. The remaining front façade comprises three bays with a half-glazed central door sheltered by a flat hood supported on double scroll-cut brackets. There are no glazing bars in the windows, and the entire front is painted. The building forms a group with numbers 41 to 49 (odd) on the High Street.
