Description

Stock Place is an altered 16th-century east wing of a former Manor House, largely demolished in the 17th century. The ground floor is of red brick, while the upper portion is timber-framed with rendered infill, all topped with a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, featuring a modern window to the gable end, a modern porch on the side, and two small windows with leaded lights on the first floor. Inside, a central truss displays a cambered tiebeam with curved braces and an arch-braced collar. Original rafters and curved wind braces, along with the original first-floor structure, remain. The building was acquired by Edmund Walker, the poet, whose family had previously been tenants.
