Description

54 and 56 Church Street is a 14th-century timber-framed house that has been enlarged and altered in the 17th century. It features plaster infilling and an old tiled roof with a large red brick chimney. The ground floor includes a shop window and a bay window from the early 19th century. The first floor has sash and casement windows, and there is a gable sash window with an original 14th or 15th-century richly carved wood tracery head. Inside, there is a crown post supporting the roof truss. The building is part of a group with Nos 46 to 58 (even).
