Description

This is an 18th-century terrace of five houses on London Road, and is partly listed for its contribution to the wider group value of buildings in the area. The houses are built of red and grey brick and have old tiled roofs. They are three storeys high. Each house originally had three sash windows in the reveals; glazing bars are present on the windows of numbers 3 and 5. Number 1 has cast iron balconettes on its first floor. Numbers 1 and 3 have a bracketed wooden cornice, while number 5 has a dentil brick cornice. Number 3 has a six-panel door. The original door to number 1 has been removed, but the doorway remains, featuring fluted pilasters, horizontally reeded cut brackets, and a flat hood. Number 5 has a door within an architrave surround with a pulvinated frieze, cornice, and pediment. The doorway to number 5, leading up a flight of steps, has an arched rusticated stucco surround with impost mouldings and a keystone, enclosing a fanlight above a three-panel door. The windows of number 5 have voussoir heads, and previously contained early 19th century sunblind cases.
