Description
School House, formerly a village school and master's house, was built in 1862 by George Devey. The building is constructed of red brick with some random stonework at the base of the chimney and quoins. It features some diaper patterning, and the upper storey is finished with painted rendering and a tile-hung gable. The roof is tiled, topped with a wooden bellcote that has a pyramid roof, positioned centrally behind a large offset chimney with four diagonal shafts that have corbelled heads, and a square stack at the right-hand end.
The structure is two storeys high, with an oversailing upper floor extending to the central gable. The windows are diamond leaded casements, with three lights on the first floor and four lights on the ground floor. There is an open gabled porch to the right of the main gable, with one three-light casement to the right and a plaque with a Latin inscription above it. A small lean-to is located on the far right.
To the left, there is a schoolroom wing that features a large stone-framed gothic arched transomed window that rises into the gable. The plank wall has a semicircular arched entry with a two-light window above it, situated below the bellcote.
