Description

The witchert wall runs west from Number 2 to Number 6, forming the southern boundary of Orchard Close and The Old Orchard in The Croft. This boundary wall dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and is constructed of witchert on a rubblestone plinth, standing about 8 feet high. The wall is partly rendered and partly left exposed, featuring pantile and cement ridge coping. The section to the west of Number 2 and south of Number 4 is colourwashed and ramps up at the west to include witchert outside a privy with a tile roof. There are gateways at the east end and halfway along, leading into the garden of Orchard Close. Additionally, there is an 18th-century board door at the west, which opens into the garden of The Old Orchard.
