Description

The Old Rectory is a house that features a 17th-century cross wing on the right, which was refaced in the 18th century. The rest of the building was rebuilt around 1730, after the terrier of 1707 and before that of 1736. There are 20th-century extensions at the rear. The 18th-century section is constructed from red and vitreous brick with red dressings and dentil eaves, while the 17th-century wing has a brick facing on the front gable and left return, with parts rendered and whitewashed, and flint with brick dressings on the remainder. The roofs are covered with old tiles, and the 18th-century part has two narrow parallel roofs. There is a brick chimney between the wings and another brick chimney to the left. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys. The 18th-century section features four bays of windows: the ground floor has narrow two-pane sashes in moulded box frames with segmental heads, and the first floor has 20th-century single barred wooden casements. There is a six-panelled door in the third bay, framed by a wooden architrave and topped with a segmental pediment on reeded brackets. The lower cross wing projects to the right and has two-light casements in the gable end, with the lower part made of wood and the upper half leaded and half cast iron. The right side has two bays of three-light leaded casements and a central old board door in a gabled timber porch. Inside, the right wing features timber framing with diagonal bracing, and there is a staircase from around 1730 with turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
