Description
Varnell's is a house built in the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The building features brick fronts on the north and east sides, while the rest is constructed of flint and brick. It has a moulded wooden eaves cornice, a hipped old tile roof, and a central brick chimney. The house is designed in an L-shape, with two storeys and an attic, and consists of two bays.
The east front displays 19th-century sash windows in modified openings on the ground floor to the left and on the first floor, along with late 19th-century French doors to the right and a blocked window in the centre of the first floor. There are two hipped dormers featuring paired wooden casements with glazed cheeks. A central late 19th-century porch projection made of brick has a gauged flat arch above double half-glazed doors.
On the north front, there are narrow four-pane sashes with moulded frames, and the ground floor windows have gauged heads. A small central hipped projection from the late 19th to early 20th century features diagonal boarding and leaded glazing. To the right, there are lean-to and 20th-century extensions.
