Description

Little Shardeloes, at Amersham, comprises numbers 1, 2, and 3. The building likely originates from the 17th century or earlier and was later encased in brick, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of red and chequer brick, with an old tile roof, and features a large brick stack at the west end of the north block along with another on the east wing. The house is two storeys and has an attic. A moulded brick band runs along the first floor.

The north front has four gables. The gable on the left has two blocked openings on each floor. The second gable from the left features a two-storey gabled porch with a round-headed doorway, impost bands, a key-block, set in a rectangular frame with brick pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment with a pulvinated frieze. A tall double-hung sash window sits above the porch, and there are two similar windows to the right. The central gable contains an early 19th century shallow bow projection to the ground floor, with a tripartite sash window and a modillion cornice. A double-hung sash window is located above this on the first floor, followed by a two-light leaded casement in the attic. The gable to the right matches this with a first-floor window, and a fourth lower gable sits over a double-hung sash window on each floor. A modern two-storey wing built of purple brick is on the west side. The east elevation has two gables on the right and a single-window section on the left. Two-light leaded casements are in the gables, and sash windows are on the first floor.
