Description

This is a 17th-century former water mill and house, located on the north side of Amersham High Street. The front of the building is distinguished by its brickwork, laid in a chequer pattern of red stretchers with grey headers. The roof is tiled, featuring coped gables and brick stacks with a coved cornice. The two-storey structure has a plinth and a band at first-floor level, with seven windows in total. The five central windows are cross-mullion and transome type, while the end windows are single-light, transomed only. The windows contain old leaded glass and segmental arches at ground floor level. The central entrance is a 6-panel door, topped with a rectangular fanlight and hood. Gable walls incorporate first and attic floor bands. Attached to the north-east corner is an earlier, possibly 17th-century or earlier, timber-framed range, now used as living accommodation. It has a tiled roof, two gabled eaves dormers and modern ground floor casements, with red brick infill. The rear elevation and interior have been altered.
