Description

HOLTSPUR TOP LANE

5134 (west side) Barn to north-east of Holtspur Bottom Farmhouse SU 99 SW 3/42

II GV

C17 and C18. Large weatherboarded range with tiled roof now converted to residential use. Four north-western bays are oldest, probably C17. Central cart door porch to south, flanked by lean-to additions. Trusses have queen struts supporting cellar which carried diagonal posts to the upper purlins. Jowled posts, straight braces. South-eastern 3 bays of later date with smaller section timbers. Trusses have curved posts supporting both purlins off tie beam but propped by struts and queen posts: collar to upper purlins. Jowled posts and curved braces. Conversion: floor inserted in south-eastern part but trusses left open to roof. Small dwelling formed in north-westernmost bay. External alterations with simple windows.
