Description
The barn located to the north-east of Holtspur Bottom Farmhouse dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is a large structure with weatherboarding and a tiled roof, which has now been converted for residential use. The four bays on the north-western side are the oldest and likely date back to the 17th century. There is a central cart door porch on the south side, with lean-to additions on either side. The trusses feature queen struts that support a cellar, with diagonal posts extending to the upper purlins. The posts are jowled and supported by straight braces. The three bays on the south-eastern side are of a later date and use smaller section timbers. These trusses have curved posts that support the purlins from the tie beam, propped by struts and queen posts, with a collar to the upper purlins. The conversion includes an inserted floor in the south-eastern part, while the trusses remain open to the roof. A small dwelling has been created in the north-westernmost bay, and there have been external alterations that include simple windows.
