Description

Denham First School and attached walls is a village primary school and teacher's house built between 1877 and 1878. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick with red brick dressings and bands. It features tiled gabled roofs with projecting rafters and purlins at the eaves, bargeboards, terracotta finials, and ventilation cowls. On the left side, there is a louvred timber bellcote topped with a slated pyramidal roof and weather-vane, while the right side has tall brick chimney stacks with decorative features.

The school is a single-storey structure with projecting end bays, the right bay serving as the two-storey teacher's house. It has a total of ten windows, with entrances at angles that have part-glazed doors beneath Tudor-arched heads. The tall two-light transom and mullion windows include glazing bars, with those in the left-hand bay paired and featuring red brick segmental arched heads and dressings. The penultimate windows in the central range are set in pointed arch recesses beneath gables, while others break through the eaves with flat heads. The teacher's house on the right has a four-light canted bay window with a tiled penthouse roof that has projecting rafters, and the first floor features a two-light casement window with a segmental arched head. The entrance is located in the right-hand recessed bay.
