Description

The Old Rectory is a house built in 1762. It is constructed from brown and vitreous brick, featuring red brick quoins and window surrounds. The building has a brick plinth and a moulded wooden eaves' cornice with modillions, topped by a hipped old tile roof. The house is two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and consists of five bays.

On the ground floor, there are two Venetian windows with architrave arches and cornices supported by Doric pilasters. The first floor features three-pane sash windows with gauged brick heads. There are three hipped dormers with old leaded cross casements and moulded wooden cornices. The plinth has two segmental arches, with the right arch containing a two-light window to the basement. The centre of the façade has five stone steps leading up to a six-panelled door, which is topped by a semi-circular radiating fanlight set in an architrave arch, and is framed by an open pediment on Doric pilasters.

At the rear, there is a later 18th-century red brick wing attached to the left bays, which has a similar wooden eaves' cornice. There are also 19th-century additions to the right at the rear, and the left side features canted bay windows from the 19th to 20th centuries.
