Description

The Church of St Margaret, formerly a chapel to Biddlesden Park House, dates back to 1735, as indicated by a plaque above the doorway inscribed with "Henry Sayer DD 1735." The church is constructed of chequered brick with stone chamfered quoins, a moulded eaves cornice, and window and door dressings, topped with a hipped tiled roof.

The south front of the church features one storey with five bays, showcasing tall leaded windows with semi-circular arched heads set in Gibbs surrounds. The central entrance has a panelled door within a square-headed surround, complete with a triple keyblock, pulvinated frieze, and pediment. There is also a similar window on the east end. The west front extends to the north, providing a passage to the house. This section has two storeys and an attic, with a stone band course at the first floor level and seven bays. The centre bay features a blind stone arch with a round window in a pediment above, while the remaining bays have blind windows on the ground floor and upper left-hand bay, and paired casements on the first floor, all with cambered arched heads and keyblocks. There are two dormers and an octagonal wooden bellcote at the centre.

Inside, original fittings include a communion table, rails, and pulpit; panels of the Creed and Commandments in carved gilt frames flanking the east window; a gallery with two orders—Doric below and Ionic above; a marble baluster font; the Royal Arms from 1723; and a panelled dado. The church also features 19th and early 20th-century glass.
