Description

The Church of St. Margaret is a parish church located in Chepping Wycombe, built in 1854 by David Brandon. The chancel was altered and extended to the east in 1932, with north vestries added in 1922 and a bell tower constructed in 1889. The church is made of flint with Bath stone dressings and has plain tile roofs. It features a nave, south porch, chancel, vestries, and a bell tower, all with coped gables and offset buttresses.

The west end of the nave includes a two-light window with plate tracery and narrow shafts, a stepped string course, and a gabled bell-cote. There are five bays of lancet windows on the north and south sides, each with carved foliage hoodmould stops. The gabled south porch has a double-chamfered arch and carved head hoodmould stops. The chancel has a shallow lean-to extension on the south side with a four-light window, each light featuring a four-centred head, and three-light traceried windows on the north and south sides of the east extension. The east end has a round window with geometric tracery and a re-sited carved foundation stone displaying a coat-of-arms. The vestries on the north side have arched traceried windows.

The bell tower, which rises from the corner of the north vestry, features a tall wooden belfry with wooden tracery, louvres, and a pyramid roof. Both the bell tower and chancel have ornamental gablets on their buttresses. Inside, there are carved angel corbels supporting the roof, a double-chamfered chancel arch on corbel shafts with richly carved caps and bases, and a stone pulpit with angle shafts.
