Description

The Queens Head Public House is a public house located in Tylers Green, Chepping Wycombe. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th to 20th centuries. The central part of the building was originally timber-framed but has been almost entirely rebuilt in brick and whitewashed. To the left, there is a projecting cross wing, which was formerly a barn and features timber framing on the upper storey with weatherboard cladding on the left side. The projecting wing to the right is from the 19th century and is made of brick. The main part has a 20th-century plain tile roof, while the left wing retains an older tile roof. Brick chimneys are present on the building.

The structure is one storey and an attic high, with two-storey side wings. The central part consists of three bays: the left bay has a large barred wooden casement and a 20th-century half-glazed door with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets; the centre bay has a bay window that has been converted into a porch, along with a small 20th-century first-floor window; the right bay features a pent roof over a canted bay window and a paired wooden casement in a gabled eaves-line dormer. The left wing has a blind gable and includes a horizontal sliding sash window and 20th-century French doors on the right return. The right wing has a gable with a dentilled border and four-pane sashes.

Inside, the central part features a large fireplace and a stop-chamfered spine beam in the right bay, along with an exposed truss that has curved braces. The left wing contains trusses with roughly cambered tie-beams, curved braces, and queen struts, as well as curved wind-braces in the roof and an inserted floor.
