Description
Townhill is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a north addition added in the 20th century. The main structure is built of rubblestone with brick piers, bands, and dressings, while the north addition is made of brick. The building features old tile roofs and has two storeys plus an attic.
The south front has five bays, with the outer bays extending north as wings and a 20th-century infill block between them. The end bays are flanked by brick piers. The central entrance door is set in a four-centred stone arch with cut spandrels, and it has a moulded arch and jambs. On either side of the door are two bays featuring box sashes, with 19th-century three-pane sashes inserted. Above the door is an oval bulls-eye window. The building has a rubble plinth, a brick band course, and dentil eaves.
There are three hipped dormers on the roof, each with original leaded casements. The ground and first floor windows are topped with segmental arches. The north addition is three storeys tall, while the outer wings are constructed of stone with brick gables. A conservatory is located on the west side of the house.
