Description
Wheelwrights is a house that dates back to the medieval period and was altered in the 16th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill, except for the north wing, which has a rubblestone north elevation and a ground floor facing the road. The building has old tile roofs. The north crosswing is followed by a south bay, which was formerly part of a medieval open hall, and there is a single-storey south range that has been modernly rebuilt with planted timber and colourwashed rendered infill.
The older part of the house is two storeys high and has leaded casements, with three lights on the ground floor and two lights on the first floor. The entrance is located in the modern south range. In the remaining bay of the south range, a medieval cruck truss is exposed in the south gable above the roof of the modern rebuilt bays. The crosswing jetties over the road and features a curved bracket to the south, with a post that has been replaced by brick at the north end. The gable has curved bracing, and there is a stack on the north wall.
