Description

The Old Forge is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill in the two northern bays, while the southern bay is clad in brick on the east side. The west elevation has a brick upper floor and a rubblestone lower part. The street-facing or north gable elevation has a rubblestone ground floor and a tile-hung upper floor. There is a single-storey brick bay on the southeast with a weatherboarded east gable, while the remainder of the forge is mainly demolished. The building has an old tile roof and consists of three bays and two storeys. The west elevation shows the north bay with exposed framing. Windows include casement and sash types. The street front has one sash window and a blocked door on the right. The east side features a door and a two-light window, with the first floor having two-light leaded casements. The forge area has a door on the north side, and there is a stack located between the southern bays.
