Description
The barn range located to the north of Townhill dates from the 17th to 18th century. The north range and part of the east range are constructed of rubblestone, while the remainder of the east range is timber framed and weather boarded, all topped with old tile roofs. The north barn features five bays with a central wagon entry and a porch to the south, which has a weatherboarded gable. The eaves on the left side extend to create an open shed. Inside, there is a double purlin roof supported by tie and collar trusses. To the left, there is a four-bay stable range that includes a boarded-over loft entry, two stable doors, and windows. The gable facing the road is made of brick and includes a loft door. Extending south from the end bay is a single-storey open shed with a hipped roof. The east range consists of one stone bay followed by an 18th-century timber-framed barn with three wide bays and a half hipped south gable. It has central cart doors and a garage door in the left bay, which is a modern addition. The roof features curved principal trusses and a double purlin structure. Together, the ranges form an L-shaped grouping with Townhill Farmhouse situated to the south.
