Description
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a parish church that dates back to the 14th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. The west tower is constructed of stone, while the nave, aisles, and chancel are covered in roughcast. The church features a copper roof and has a vaulted niche above the west door. There are traceried windows located in the east end of the south aisle and in the chancel, with lead roofs that are double curved over the chancel. Inside, the church has three bay nave arcades, with 16th-century arches leading to the north chapel that have panelled reveals. Notable interior features include two brasses and a marble monument from 1619. Historically, the church is significant as the wedding venue of 'Capability' Brown in 1744.
