Description

Coombe Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, which incorporates parts of a 17th-century structure. The front range is constructed of vitreous and brown brick, featuring red brick quoins and surrounds for the openings. The rear wing is also brick, built in English bond, and is connected to a brick range that once served as outbuildings. The farmhouse has coved wooden eaves at the front and is topped with old tile roofs and brick chimneys on either side of the front wing. It is designed in an L-plan, with two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, presenting two bays on the front.

The ground floor features 20th-century four-pane sash windows with segmental heads, while the first floor has old three-light leaded casements with cambered heads. There are also two old paired leaded casements in hipped dormers, which are adorned with moulded cornices. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door topped with a wooden cornice hood and a blind panel above. The left side of the rear wing contains old leaded casements and a 20th-century entry at the angle. The right side has irregular casements and a 20th-century verandah.

The lower range of the former outbuildings features irregular casements, a 20th-century chimney, and curved principal trusses. Inside the house, there are heavy chamfered spine beams and some wall timbers in the rear wing. The front left room boasts a high dado of 17th-century moulded panels and a corner fireplace with a wooden arch and cornice. The room above is lined with similar panelling. The ground floor right room includes a fireplace framed in late 18th-century wood with a cornice, alongside a boarded cupboard to the left that has old hinges and an open frieze of shaped slats.
