Description
Southend Farmhouse is a house that originated in the 17th century, featuring a central wing with a gable facing the street that was rebuilt in the mid-18th century. The house was extended to the right in the late 18th century and to the left in 1870, as indicated by a date on the brickwork. The central wing is timber framed, with the front gable reconstructed in red and vitreous brick, accented by red quoins and plain band courses. It has a tiled roof and a central brick chimney. The building is two storeys high, with one bay at the front that includes 3-light leaded casements on the main floors and blocked openings on the first floor and attic. There are also sun and County fire insurance plaques present. The later 18th-century bay to the right is constructed of chequer brick, featuring a first-floor band course and a moulded plinth, and it has leaded windows with three lights on the ground floor and two lights above. The entry is located in the 20th-century extension at the far right. The left bay is made of red and white chequer brick, topped with a hipped tile roof and has a 3-light leaded casement above an altered doorway.
