Description

Herdsman Cottage at Mumfords Farmhouse is a building from the 16th century that has been altered and extended. It is two stories high, with the original part being timber-framed and featuring red brick nogging. The roof is covered with old tiles and has two gables, with the eastern gable being larger. The first floor has mid-17th century wood mullioned and transomed windows, along with oculi in the east gable and a large projecting brick stack from the 17th century on the east side. The south elevation and the southern part of the west front are made of mid-18th century brick, which includes a band course between the storeys and three-light casements. The north range has later double-hung sash windows, while the north block, known as Herdsman's Cottage, features casements and a half-hipped old tile roof. Most openings are cambered. Inside, there are two doorways on the first floor with moulded wood frames dating back to the 16th century.
