Description
Dovecote Farmhouse is a house comprising a late 16th-century range to the north and a parallel range to the south, which was altered and largely rebuilt in the late 19th century. The north range is timber-framed with close studding and herringbone brick infill. The first floor is jettied, with a dragon beam to the northeast corner resting on an arched brace with a moulded capital. It has an old tile roof, gabled to the street, and a 19th-century brick chimney to the far gable. The north side has a gable to the street with late 19th and early 20th-century leaded windows, a three-light casement to the ground floor, and a canted oriel above. Further windows include a three-light leaded casement to the left and a similar two-light casement to the right. A 19th-century lean-to with a board door is on the right, with timber framing of the southern range visible above. The south range is mainly of red brick with some half-timbering in the east gable and has a tiled roof. It has two storeys and two bays, with a gable to the street featuring leaded casements and a small window to the right. The south front incorporates two small gables, barred wooden casements, and a central door within a timber gabled porch.
