Description
Cookshall Farmhouse, Cookshall Cottage, and The Flat comprise a house, cottage, and flat located in West Wycombe Rural. The farmhouse dates from the mid to late 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier core, and features an altered 16th and 17th-century range at the rear. The house is constructed of flint with narrow brick dressings, topped with an old tile roof and a narrow brick chimney situated between the left bays. It has two storeys and three bays, with 20th-century three-light barred wooden casements, and ground floor windows that have chequered segmental heads. The left bay contains a six-panelled top-lit door framed by a 20th-century architrave and topped with a wooden cornice hood. The left gable features leaded casements and a fire insurance plaque.
Attached to the rear left corner is a range that includes the cottage and flat. This structure has three bays, featuring timber framing with brick infill. The center bay displays heavy framing and arch braces, while the right bay is a 17th-century addition. The ground floor and rear have been rebuilt in brick and flint, with two later brick and flint bays to the left. The roof is old tile, hipped to the left, with a rebuilt brick chimney to the right. This range has one storey and an attic, comprising five bays with irregular barred wooden casements, including attic windows in gabled eaves-line dormers and a horizontal sliding sash in the right bay. A 20th-century brick lobby is located to the right, with a 20th-century door in the second bay, and stable and hayloft doors to the left. There is a timber-framed staircase projection at the rear angle between the house and the cottage. The interior of the cottage features timber-framed cross walls, curved wind-braces in the center bay, a stop-chamfered spine beam in the right bay, and a winder stair.
