Description

Grange Farmhouse is a house that features two 16th century bays at the left end, another 16th century bay to the right, and an altered bay in between. A 17th century gabled wing projects to the right, while a 19th century lean-to is located to the left, and a 20th century study is at the rear of the left bay. The timber frame is exposed on the first floor front of the main range and on the left side of the 17th century wing, with the main range having an upper storey that jetties on beam ends. The infill is made of whitewashed brick. The ground floor and rear of the main range are tile-hung from the 20th century, while the 17th century wing has been largely rebuilt in whitewashed brick. The 19th century lean-to is constructed of whitewashed brick and flint. The roofs are tiled, and there is a chimney made of narrow dark bricks situated between the left bays. The house is two storeys high. The central part of the main range has barred wooden casements, including one three-light window on the ground floor and two two-light windows above. There is a 20th century porch to the left at the angle with the lean-to. The 17th century wing has 20th century wooden casements in the gable end and a 20th century half-glazed door on the left side. A 20th century extension to the right connects the house with a former cowshed. Inside, the left bay features a stop-chamfered spine beam and heavy joists. The central bays have been altered, with the right part showing slight timbers and traces of a cross passage. Timber framing is visible in the partition walls, and there are curved wind-braces in the right bay.
