Description

Nos. 116 to 130 (even) Abbey Lane comprise four pairs of semi-detached houses built in 1865. The design is attributed to Bazalgette. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with dressings of red and black brick and stone. They have hipped, slated roofs and a symmetrical arrangement, featuring projecting gabled wings. Recessed round-headed sash windows have gauged brick arches with polychrome voussoirs; these windows retain their original glazing bars. Red brick impost bands define the ground floor windows, and a raised brick cill band is visible on the first floor. The original central panelled entrance doors, each with a fanlight, remain, except at No. 118. Tall, stone-capped chimney stacks are a prominent feature.
