Description
The building is a former superintendent's house, now used as offices, located at Abbey Mills and constructed in 1865 by Bazalgette. It is two storeys tall and three windows wide, built of yellow brick with red brick and stone dressings, topped with a slated roof. The windows are recessed sash types with round-headed openings, featuring finely gauged red and white brick voussoirs. There is a banded course at the ground floor level and a gabled central entrance doorway. The first-floor windows extend beyond the eaves, creating three pedimented gables. Square cast iron rainwater pipes are positioned on either side of the doorway and the central bay. The building also has thin chimney stacks with corbelled caps on each side. There are contemporary extensions at the flanks and rear. It is listed mainly for its group value with the main pumping station.
